A Roman silver plate, buried in the riverbank in Corbridge was found by two young girls in 1735. One girl?s father sold it to a blacksmith in Newcastle, having no idea of its true value. It remained in a private collection until it was sold to the British Museum in 1993. The plate was returned to the Corbridge Museum in 1999.
