Three men died in an accident at Catcleugh waterworks. The trio, Thomas Henderson, of Haydon Bridge, and George Herbert and Thomas Raymond, both from the south of England, sustained fatal injuries when a lift cage, in which they were descending, came loose and plummeted 60 feet to the bottom of the lift shaft.
