Shearings Holidays of Wigan buy the 47-room, three-star George Hotel at Chollerford for an undisclosed sum as part of a ?25 million investment plan in its hotel empire. It was part of the Swallow Hotel chain but after the group went into administration in 2006 it had been run by the Scotland-based Crerar group.
