Family week – August 21st – 27th

We are going to be running a week of free family activities

Monday – Horses to Tractors – Looking at when and why famers and others started using tractors, and looking at the different horses that would have been used, for what job, and if one tractor could do all of those jobs. We are running three sessions at set times during the day 10:30 – 11:30, 12:30 – 13:30 and 14:30 – 15:30.

Tuesday – Finding the Foundry -  Join us for two guided walks along to Foundary Yard and up to the Lower Dam, We will be running two sessions 10:30 – 12:30 and 13:30 – 15:30. Starting and finishing at The Heritage Centre - for no more than 12 people in total.

Wednesday – Reiver’s Research – spend time finding out about your ancestors and where they came from, linking into talks on the Reivers and the story of the Lang Pack, with potentially a walk up to the church / graveyard. Three group sessions during the day – 10:30 - 11:45, 12:45 - 14:00, 14:30 - 15:45.

Thursday – Town Trail –Join us for two guided walks, up to the centre of the Town and looking at the history of the area, and how the town has evolved, but stayed the same. This would once again be groups of no more than 12, with only two walks running that day 10:30 – 12:30 and 13:30 – 15:30, due to the length of time and distance involved. Starting and finishing at The Heritage Centre.

Friday – Train Tracking –  Looking at the history of the railway in the area, and where the train used to run to, as well as the trains that used to run on the track. Three sessions at set times 10:30 – 11:30, 12:30 – 13:30 and 14:30 – 15:30.

Saturday – Photographic Processes – Spend time learning about the photographic processes and the reason eggs were needed! 10:30 – 11:30, 12:30 – 13:30 and 14:30 – 15:30.

Sunday – Woeful Wars – Discover more about how the war effected this area and the smaller towns and villages. Times for the activities are 10:30 – 11:30, 12:30 – 13:30 and 14:30 – 15:30.

It will be first come, first served. We only have a maximum of 12 people for the two lead walks and a maximum of 10 people per activity time.
