A clerk at Plashetts Colliery almost bled to death after being stabbed in the leg by a nine year old boy whom he had chastised for blowing out the taper with which he was trying to light his pipe. |

A valuable draught horse was killed when the cart laden with turnips it was pulling across the railway line at Bardon Mill was struck by a train. The servant driving the cart was unhurt but the cart was shattered, pieces being carried along the line for a mile. |
