Newbrough and Fourstones	29 August 1864	A weekend of anniversary services was held at the newly-built United Methodist Free Church at Newbrough.
Newbrough and Fourstones	20 June 1874	Anniversary of Newbrough Mechanics? Institute.
Newbrough and Fourstones	03 March 1875	There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Newbrough Mechanics Institute. The usefulness of the society and its influence, morally and intellectually, was commented on. In an appeal for financial assistance, the institute was described as a boon to unborn generations and its activities were manifest proof in caring for the moral culture and well being for the sons of toil.
Newbrough and Fourstones	23 November 1875	The new Wesleyan Chapel at Butt Bank, built at a cost of ?730 to seat 30 people, was officially opened for divine service.
Newbrough and Fourstones	01 March 1877	The opening of a railway sub-post office at Fourstones meant that letters could now be delivered to the area at 8am instead of 11am.
Newbrough and Fourstones	27 April 1878	The new Town Hall at Newbrough was opened on Thursday 25th April 1878 by Mr. W. Benson, Allendale Hall, the land and building being the gift of Miss Todd of Newbrough Park.
Newbrough and Fourstones	04 March 1880	A new railway station was opened at Fourstones. The station was reached from the highway by ?a good level road? and contained both a parcel and a booking office. It also had a ?large and commodious? waiting room.
Newbrough and Fourstones	15 April 1880	A fatal accident occurred at the Settlingstones Mine near Newbrough. A man named John Harkness from Allendale lost his life when he was caught in an explosion.
Newbrough and Fourstones	30 June 1881	A committee meeting, chaired by the Rev. G. Cruddas, met at the town hall in Newbrough to discuss the proposal for a new cricket team in the village.
Newbrough and Fourstones	22 September 1881	Newbrough United Methodist Free Church celebrated its anniversary with music and readings.
