It's our 25th Anniversary year in 2019. Visit out timeline to see something of our history.


See, hear and absorb the fascinating history of this special part of Northumberland.

Opening dates / times for 2019
1st April-1st November (inclusive)
Monday-Sunday 10.00am-4.00pm

From the 27th July to 2nd September in the summer holidays we will be providing extended opening hours until 5pm.

Entry Fees for 2019:

  • Adult £4
  • Children 5-16 £1
  • Children under 5 Free
  • Family £6 (max. 2 Adults, 2 Children)
  • Concession £3
  • Coach trips and groups, £2.50 per head

We have three exhibitions during 2019:

  1. Celebrating the Heritage Centre's 25th Anniversary which occurs on 10th June
  2. The Bellingham Peace Celebrations which were held 19th July 1919
  3. The Forestry Commission 100th Anniversary which was founded 1st September 1919

In addition on 28th April we have our Annual Classic and Vintage Vehicle Day.

The Heritage Centre 25 years on

A landmark day dawned on Friday 7th June 2019 when, on the invitation of vice chairman Wesley Turnbull, Guy Opperman MP formally opened the Heritage Centre as Edie Lyons had done 25 years earlier at Shellcroft on 10th June 1994. Edie had worked for local photographer, W. P. Collier, in the 1920s and it was a collection of his pictures that prompted Dorothy Bell and a group of local enthusiasts to create the Heritage Centre.

What's Happening?

audio guide example deviceWe have revamped the entrance and lobby to the centre for the 2019 season making it a more attractive and useable welcome for the visitor.

We have also introduced audio guide equipment for visitors to use to explain some of the key parts of the museum exhibition as they walk around it.
