Do you want to exhibit?
We encourage local artists and heritage groups to show their work in our temporary gallery. It’s free, but we ask you to set up your exhibition. Please get in touch if you’d like a slot in our programme.
We also have two temporary exhibition cases for displaying smaller guest collections. Just drop us a line if you have a collection you’d like to share with the local community and visitors to the area.
3rd August– 14th September
Mike Gibson has been collecting World War 1 postcards for many years and there cannot be another similar collection of postcards anywhere else in the North-East, featuring such a comprehensive variety of content. David Walmsley, who has co-curated this exhibition, says that this has got to be the most visual account of WW1 philately to be exhibited in the region and should be seen by everyone.
16th September–31st October
This is a quilting and textiles extravaganza, presented by celebrated quilter, Gillian Arkley, and award-winning textiles artist, Helen Cowans. Textiles and quilts of their personal quilting journeys, featuring Northumberland landscapes, eastern patterns and a riot of colour will be exhibited. Quilting groups, sewing groups and anyone with an interest in art and the landscape should really enjoy it.
In 2018 we hope to revamp the entrance and lobby to the centre making it a more attractive and useable welcome for the visitor.
We are also looking at some audio guide equipment for visitors to use to explain some of the key parts of the museum exhibition as they walk around it.
Our website will be revamped in 2018 and we hope to offer more facilities and information for both visitors and Friends of the Museum.

The annual "Classic and Vintage Vehicle Day" will be held on Sunday 22nd April 2018 between 10am and 4pm. This popular event is an important fund raising event for the Heritage Centre. In recent years we have attracted over 70 vehicles comprising cars, tractors, motor cycles and commercial vehicles. During the day a "lighthearted" competition is held with visitors and exhibitors asked to vote for the best turned out vehicle. The winner receives a cup and trophy which are donated by friends of the late Ian McInnes, who was an enthusiastic supporter of the event.
